Hawaiian Luau Birthday Parties (With Tiki Bars for Adults!)

Think Hawaiian Luau, and you’re probably back in your first year of college, freshly inducted into the Greek system. There are beer bongs and kegs amidst tiki torches. Frat boys accessorize their gray university sweatshirts with leis and rainbows, while sorority sisters are wearing fluorescent bikinis and ripped denim skirts over their spray tans. There’s no Burl Ives and pig roasts – only T-Pain and endless trays of Jell-O shots.

Please erase those cringe-worthy memories off your mind. You’re a parent now, and these days, it’s all about the Hawaiian Luau Birthday Parties for the kiddos. Here’s how you party it up like the hippest Pinterest parents:

Abby’s Birthday Luau was put together by her DIYer mom, Jenny. Party guests were greeted with a gorgeous display of leis – to wear to the party!

Check out the beautiful dessert table with its stunning paper flower backdrop, and the clever grass table skirt.

This is one ridiculously adorable cake, made by the birthday gal’s mom with love (and some serious baking skills.)

There was no shortage of hula dancers. They had them as cookies…

… and on water bottles!

The best type of pineapple is of the Ferrero Rocher variety.

And the best type of coconut juice is the one that comes straight out of the coconut, not the ones in cartons heavily advertised by celebs.

YES to this Tiki Lounge dedicated to the hardworking and self-sacrificing parents who don’t get to enjoy themselves much because they’re too busy shuttling their kids to birthday parties.

Here’s Scarlett's Hawaiian Luau-Themed Party planned by mom Jacinda.

These cake pops are bae. (People still say that, right?)

And check out those flip flop and grass skirt cookies. Yum.

Here’s the Tiki Bar stocked with refreshments – those coconut cups are divine!

Can’t think of anything cuter than these pineapple goody boxes.

Here’s Pia’s Hawaiian Luau 6th Birthday Party thrown by her mom, Heather.

Here’s a fun DIY made by mom – a colorful backdrop perfect for photo shoots!

We’re loving the gorgeous paper garlands and lanterns decorating the pergola. Everything looks so magical.

Leis adorned the chairs, ready to be worn by the guests!

Loving the Hawaiian-themed dishes. (That hula dancer topper!)

Here’s a “Make Your Own Sea” station, with sand, shells, crystals, and turquoise water – how lovely.

Finally, we have Julieta’s amazing Hawaiian 2nd Birthday Party planned by Julie of Crowning Details. This display looks magnificent!

Loving all the pineapples, from the sippy cups...

... to the cake pops!

Digging these colorful Hibiscus flower cookies.

What a stunning cake! The detail on those flowers is incredible.

Pineapple centerpieces – how fun!

There was even a dress-up station of straw hats, grass skirts, and pretty floral hair clips. The evening ended with fun games, such as fire baton twirling for the little ladies, and a fire eating contest for the boys.
